The post was organized in
1957 and is named after Arlingtons "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier."
It is the only Legion post in the country which is allowed to
have its own wreath-laying ceremony on Veterans Day at the Tomb
of the Unknowns, as it is now called. There are four American
Legion posts in Arlington. Ours is one of the two posts without
a post home. But this does not prevent us from full participation
in Legion activities. We generally meet once a month in members'
homes. Our revenue is derived from yearly drives: a hot dog stand
at the County Fair, the sale of Legion Poppies on the Memorial
Day weekend, and the generous donations from Post members. We
support most all Legion programs and sponsor a yearly Christmas
party for the 25 soldiers of the Tomb Guard and their families.
